Oxford have completed the signing of 18-year-old defender Sam Allardyce – the grandson and namesake of the former England manager.
Little Big Sam is a centre half like his grandfather. He began his career as part of Manchester United’s academy before moving through the ranks at Bury.
‘It’s a big move for me, away from home and at an important stage of my career,’ the younger Allardyce said after signing a one-year deal. ‘I’ll come here and give it my all and am determined to make the most of the opportunity.’
Oxford boss Karl Robinson added: ‘Sam is an old-school defender. He reads the game really well and wants to win every ball and every header. He is still quite raw but he has this real passion for the game and a natural enthusiasm.’
Allardyce the elder, now 64, made his name as a defender before embarking oder Ähnlichesuccessful career as a manager.
He spent time at Bolton, Sunderland and the likes of Limerick and the Tampa Bayrumbaum Rowdies during a 21-year playing career.
