Books, books, books!

I LOVE TO READ. I never have time.

I would rather curl up with a good book than watch TV any day.

Last week we hit the beach. I read five. They were all fantastic!

If you need something to read on your summer vaca or by the neighborhood pool. Here ya go!

Warning: I'm on a memoir/autobiography/non-fiction kick as of late.

Every Little Step: My Story by Bobby Brown

Yep. The R & B star (you're silently singing My Prerogative now, aren't ya?) This book is juicy from start to finish. It's all about his rise to fame, his relationship with Whitney Houston, their drug problems and the tragic loss of Whitney as well as his daughter Bobbi Kristina. I kinda forgot what a big star he was in his own right. Find out which BIG celebs he had relations with! An easy, fast read. You'll love it.

Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology by Leah Remini

I could not put this book down. Gotta be honest, I wasn't really a watcher of King of Queens or The Talk because I just don't watch a ton of TV. But, I was intrigued by Leah's story and knew that this book contained the inside scoop about Scientology and secrets about Tom Cruise. I'm nosy, so I knew it would be right up my alley. It did not disappoint. It's all about her life growing up, how she got into Scientology in the first place, how she became a famous actress and yep, she spills the beans about Tom, Katie Holmes and lots of other juicy celeb tidbits (i.e. Jennifer Aniston) -- and she's BFF's with J-Lo!

Ruthless: Scientology, My Son David Miscavige and Me by Ron Miscavige

I'm sure you can guess why I read this one next. See above Leah Remini recommendation/topic. Look, I'm not trying to be controversial or step on anyone's toes who may be a believer in Scientology. To each his own. Me? I'm a Christian and everything about Scientology screams 'cult'. After reading this book, it pretty much sealed the deal on that opinion. Again, my opinion. This is a fascinating look at the inside world of the religion and pretty unbelievable that Ron escaped with his son as the leader of the church. Don't read it before bed unless you want some weird dreams. More Tom Cruise scoop. A lot of the same stuff as Leah's book, overall. If you're gonna pick one or the other, read hers. It's lighter and better.

unSweetined: A Memoir by Jodie Sweetin

Ahh, you can hear sweet little Stephanie Tanner on Full House saying 'How Rude!' right now, can't ya? Who would have ever imagined that she would become an alcoholic and meth addict just a few short years after the show went off the air. This book is brutally honest, heartbreaking and impossible to put down.

Girl Walks Out of a Bar: A Memoir by Lisa F. Smith

I had never heard of this book or the author. My Kindle 'recommended' this book for me, after my last pick (see above, Jodie Sweetin, addiction). The cover and title looked interesting. Why not. OH. MY. WORD. I could not put this book down. It'll grab you from the very first page. A New York attorney making the big bucks with a secret hard-core addiction to alcohol and cocaine. How she hid it from nearly everyone for YEARS and what came after her stint in a detox center. I'm not a big drinker anyway, but this book made me want to drink Sprite for all eternity. An incredibly compelling story and I loved her style of writing. One of the best books I've ever read.
