Tonight, my husband and I had a MUCH needed date night at one of my favorite spots... the ridiculously delicious Q39! Have you been? If not, you simply MUST make it a priority to check it out, especially during KC Restaurant Week. You will not be disappointed -- trust me!
My mother-in-law and I had dinner at Q39 a few months ago and I was blown away. I've had lots of different kinds of KC BBQ. How could this place really top anything I've had before? Well. It did. I was hooked from the first bite and couldn't wait to bring my husband back with me for more!
So, date night! And it was perfect.

We started with a drink at the bar -- a very cool vibe. In fact, I love the trendy ambiance of the entire restaurant (it's not a paper plate + styrofoam cup kinda place). Then we dove right in to the 'Best Wings on the Planet'. I get why they named them that. The perfect description. Jumbo wings in chipotle BBQ sauce. Yum with a capital Y.
Up next -- the Pork Belly and Sausage Corn Dogs. Pork belly, sausage, classic BBQ sauce and maple syrup. Our (awesome) server told us she wanted them to call these 'Pork Pops'! I think that would've been a clever little name! But, no matter the name -- the bottom line is that they were DELICIOUS!
The pork corn dog was like eating a cinnamon sugar doughnut with a salty piece of pork in the middle, dipped into the syrup... heavenly. The perfect combo of salty/sweet.
On to our main courses. Matthew got the Jumbo Beef Short Rib (beans, veggies, classic BBQ sauce). Loved it.
I opted for No Jackin' Around. Pulled pork, classic BBQ sauce, pepper jack cheese on toasted bread. Superb. Came with a side of the best french fries I may have ever tasted. Highly recommend!
I wish I could tell you we had room for dessert... but we were stuffed! So, so good.
We had a chance to meet Owner and Executive Chef, Rob Magee. What a NICE guy... passionate about what he has created. I love that. And, I love the story of how Q39 started. He and his wife created their dream restaurant. Fresh food from scratch with the idea to offer the best barbeque in Kansas City with the best service possible. Mission accomplished.
