Real Life: How to Detox After a Halloween Sugar Binge!
Written by: Allison Swan
It wouldn't be Halloween if you didn't eat a TON of sugar, right?! Counteract your sugar binge with this guide on how to get back on track after your dessert marathon...
Step 1: Move
Get the detox going by sweating it out and using your muscles to use the excess sugar. If you're just lounging around and not working out, all that sugar is sadly going to get stored as fat. Taking even a 15 minute walk is better than doing nothing at all.
Step 2: Drink Water
Drinking water adds volume to your blood which dilutes sugar. Drink plenty of water for a few hours following your high sugar intake.
Step 3: Eat Whole Foods
Avoid eating anything packaged or pre-prepared. Instead, fill up on fruits, veggies, eggs, meats, nuts, and whole grains, which are hydrating and fiber-filled, getting your body back on track.
Step 4: Practice Mindfulness
Being proactive is the best way to prevent that post-binge feeling. You're sure to have plenty of sweet treats still around the house days after Halloween, so focus on portion control. You're going to eat those M&Ms, but instead of eating the entire bag, take a handful and put it away. Small steps will help you eat less and savor more.
