Fun Ideas for Office Holiday Parties
Written by: Jen Johnson
Last year, the KC 102.1 staff threw the BEST Christmas party. Not only did we have incredible food (thank you Golden Boy Pies!), but we literally rolled out the red carpet for listeners and celebrities (we had everyone from an Olympian to a prime-time ABC actress!) to join us for games, live music (The Snow Globes are amazing), and of course, presents. It was sincerely the most fun I’ve ever had at a work party, and we got to share it live on the air, so it was like all of Kansas City was there!
If you need some holiday ideas for how your office can celebrate, here are a few suggestions.
Get into the spirit of giving-Invite everyone to volunteer for one of the great KC causes that needs free help. Instead of giving gifts, have everyone donate to a local organization. Sponsor a family that may not otherwise have gifts. Host an event at your business that benefits a group in need.
Have a holiday ornament decorating party-Get some plain ornaments and decorating supplies and let everybody get crafty. You could even turn it into a contest-best ornament wins an afternoon off!
Have your own “Baking Championship”-Have your co-workers bring in their best Christmas cookies, gingerbread houses and favorite traditional treats, and let everyone vote on the best.
Head out to a game or concert-Have the employees meet up for a hockey or football game (and yes, sit near each other) to cheer on one of our KC teams. There are also tons of great holiday concerts this year (Jewel, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Straight No Chaser), so pick one you all want to check out, and find out which co-worker is secretly a really good singer!
Secret Santa or White Elephant-If you like to give and get gifts, set up a gift exchange. Make sure everyone’s on the same page when it comes to price range and “funny” gifts. Personally, when I hear “white elephant”, I assume I’m supposed to bring a weird, random gift. Some people hear it and just think “gift exchange”. There’s nothing more awkward than showing up with junk from your basement when someone else is unwrapping expensive liquor and concert tickets. Set the rules up in advance.
Escape rooms-What better motivation to get out of an escape room than being stuck in there with your boss?? See how well you all REALLY work together under pressure.
