Wedding Planning: Jenny's Engagement Story and Finding the Right DJ

Written by: Jenny

My engagement. One of THE best days of my entire life. Matthew (now my husband of 12 years) was a tricky one! We were living in South Florida at the time. He suggested we drive up to Disney for the weekend -- HIS birthday weekend. Of course I agreed -- his special day, we can spend it however he wants!

We spent our first day at one of the parks and had a blast. I mean, how can you NOT have a blast at Disney? It's the happiest place on Earth. We got back to our room that afternoon and he suggested we go outside for a walk. So, we did. About five minutes into the walk he abruptly told me we needed to go back to the room. Um, OK. (Maybe he had to go to the bathroom?! No idea.)

Back at the room, my normally super chill-always calm man started acting WEIRD. He told me to sit down. I did. He paced. He told me to close my eyes. I did. Now, mind you, not ONCE during this very odd exchange did I think a proposal was coming. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure WHAT I thought was happening!

He told me to open my eyes. He was in front of me with a pack of Juicy Fruit gum. He offered me a piece. There we sat awkwardly staring at each other chomping on gum.

'No, no! Close your eyes again,' he said.

I did.

Then he told me to open my eyes and as he got down on one knee in front of me I saw the prettiest, sparkliest ring... but even better than that, I looked into the eyes of the man I was madly in love with and he asked me to marry him. I cried. He cried. We chewed our gum! And of course, I said YES!!!

Best. Day. Ever.

And then... it was time to plan!

I'm 12 years into my love story. Maybe yours is just beginning? Did you just get engaged? Know someone who's about to walk down the aisle? As a radio DJ, maybe I'm biased. But, I truly believe one of THE most important decisions is your reception entertainment. Without great music and a lively DJ... it's a snoozefest and guests will try to sneak away after they get their fill at the buffet.

You simply MUST have a pro and I can, without an ounce of hesitation, recommend Icon Event Group. Now, don't get me wrong -- they do it all! full scale audio and video production, corporate events and everything in between. But, weddings are 70% of what they do. Wedding entertainment is not only their profession... it's their PASSION.

Icon Event Group knows the proper balance of both emceeing and skilled DJ'ing. Microphone use is important. But, it must be used correctly. Over and improper use will disengage the audience and can come off as 'cheesy'. A great DJ (Icon Event Group) knows the balance -- how to engage the audience and build energy throughout the night!

Icon Elite DJ's know how to mix music. They know how to read an audience so they play the appropriate songs -- particularly for the really special moments.

Icon offers DJ's, wedding entertainment, lighting, photo booths, a 'selfie mirror' (super fun!), videography, video playback, full event production.

What is the selfie mirror? Um, it will be the hit of the party! Trust me. Let me show you:
