We are excited to kick off a new IAMsheKC series! Each month, we will introdue you to incredible boss babes and what they do for their business. First up, we are introducing the boss behind Arista Hair Solutions, Courtney Erps.
Name: Courtney Erps
Occupation: Owner/Master Stylist/Trichologist at Arista Hair Solutions
How do you start your day? What is your morning routine? Well I would have to say I am pretty routine. I normally wake up at about 5:00 a.m. in time to make my coffee, workout, and feed all of our animals before waking my daughter and getting us ready for the day.
What inspired you to start Arista Hair Solutions? After getting involved in the hair replacement world back in 2000, I started to realize the huge need for a salon that wasn't just up on the latest trends... but also specialized in hair loss, hair replacement, hair extensions and treatments. I knew I couldnt take it on all on my own so thats when I started Arista and was blessed to find such an amazing team!
Why do you love working as a stylist + business owner? I love what I do...being able to help people with hair issues is extremely fulfilling. It seems silly and vain but hair is one of those things people see first, something you can't cover. If you gain 10 lbs. you can wear a bigger shirt but if your hair is balding or you have some other hair ailment its not like you can wear a hat all the time. Being a business owner is just icing on the cake, I love watching my team getting the same satisfaction as I do from it and becoming successful.
Did you always know that you wanted to own a business? No, it was definitely just the path that was laid out for me.
Tell us about one your most memorable achievements in your career? Starting Arista would for sure be the most memorable achievement, but beyond that... doing shows like ABC’s Extreme Makeover opened me up to a whole other world of hair.
What’s something you can’t go a day without? My family and God….oh and my hair extensions, lol
What’s your favorite KC restaurant? Hmm... I would say J Alexanders only because of the carrot cake. I also like Nick and Jakes for Sunday Brunch and Stockhill for a date night.
Favorite thing to do on the weekend (or when not working) in KC? Honestly, chill at home but I do love going down to the market when the weather is nice and summer concerts
What is the best piece of advice you have received? To stay focused on the purity and passion of what I came to do.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to work in the beauty industry? If you truly love what you do and have a passion for it the rest will come. Honestly I would give that advice to anyone.
What's a quote you live by everyday?
“The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has been before.” Albert Einstein
