sheREADS: Jenny's Pool Picks

I love to read! It's honestly one of my favorite ways to relax. But, because life is so freaking busy most of the time, I don't get to do it unless I'm a.) on an airplane b.) on vacation or -- yay summertime c.) at the pool with my kiddos!
So, I've gotten to read a couple of books lately. They were both REALLY good -- like, couldn't put them down good.
Oh. My. Word. This book is straight up amazing -- mainly because it's a true story. Jeannette and her siblings grew up with an alcoholic father and a beyond-carefree mother. They lived all over the country with barely any money and total lack of stability. Yet, from the first couple of pages, we learn that somehow Jeannette rises above incredible odds and ends up well-educated and living in New York City. The story of how she got there is nothing short of fascinating. You HAVE to read this book. Incredible. And inspiring.
So, I remember Oprah talking about this book a few years ago -- and she even had the author on her show. But, as I recall, I was battling all-day pregnancy sickness and I could barely function as a radio DJ. Reading made me super nauseated! So, while it totally seemed like a story I would love to dive into... I didn't and I kind of forgot about it. Because my daughter was born. And, thus began my inability to carve out time to read. HA!
Anyway, I was looking around a book store during our beach vacay in June and I saw it on the shelf! Picked it up. Started reading it. Finished it in a day.
There are two guys named Wes Moore living in basically the same neighborhood under basically the same circumstances. However, one ends up a Rhodes Scholar and the other ends up with life in prison. It's an intriguing story -- how they got to know one another and really made me think about life choices and how each one we make impacts the next step.
I'm currently reading this story about my two-best-celebrity-friends-who-have-no-clue-who-I-am-but-I'm-obsessed-with-them. Do you love these two or what?!!! Many of you know I spent quite a bit of time in the hospital this year (I'm good now). But, if you've ever spend any time at all there (I hope the answer is no) -- you soon realize that there is NOTHING to watch on TV except for HGTV. Well, that turned out to be a good thing for me because I do love a good home makeover and after watching 4,532 episodes of 'Fixer Upper', I fell in love with Chip and Jo (we're on a nickname first basis like that). I'm about half-way through their story and I'm already making plans to visit Waco. Wanna go?
