DIY: Make-Up Brush Cleaning Plate
Written by: Allison Swan
You wash your face twice a day, but how often do you give your tools the same kind of love? Having clean brushes is extremely important in preventing breakouts and keeping your complexion clear. Here's how to create your own DIY makeup brush cleaning plate to extend the life of your brushes and keep your skin looking fresh!
Start with a plastic plate and glue gun. Use hot glue to create a variety of patterns on the plate, like zigzags and swirls. Let the glue fully dry before using the plate.
Mix two parts antibacterial dish soap to one part extra virgin olive oil on a clean plate. Take your first brush and wet it slightly with lukewarm water, keeping the brush bristle-side down throughout the entire process -- you don't want water getting into the middle part of the brush that holds everything together because it can loosen the glue, causing the bristles to fall out.
Thoroughly coat your damp brush into the soap mixture. Then, rub the brush onto the cleaning plate in circular motions under running water until the soapy residue is makeup-free.
Rinse your brushes pointed down to avoid water collecting in the base of the brush until there is no more soap in the bristles.
Squeeze out moisture with a paper towel, reshape, and let the brushes fully dry overnight.
That's it! Repeat once every month.
