Faith + Motivation: It's Not About Your Past
Written by: Latrese Kabuya
The enemy comes along to remind you about your past. However, when he starts reminding you of your past -- then you need to remind him that your past doesn't control you. Remind him that your later will be greater than your former. (Haggai 2:9)
Dwelling on the past can make you lose sight of your present life and your future. It makes your life quickly pass you by without engaging in the moment.
If you find yourself focusing on your past, let me provide you with keys to unlock the door to freedom from your past and so that you can enjoy your present and your future.
First, FORGIVE yourself. That can be so hard because we carry guilt for something we've done. However, in Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. No longer do you have to carry the weight of the past. God forgives you, now forgive yourself.
Realize your past doesn't define you because the past is gone. Live in the present and work towards the future. Everyday, every sunrise is a new opportunity to decide who you are going to be. Don't be a slave to your past -- be the best version of yourself right now. Don't focus on being your old self, but look towards being your true self.
Live your life moving forward. This means let those things that are behind you stay behind. There is a reason why you don't have eyes in the back of your head because you need to move forward towards your destiny. Operate in your purpose and enjoy your life. You have so much to look forward to.
The past can teach you, it has shaped who you are. But don't let your past rule your present. Don't allow your past to intrude on your present and keep your from living the life you want to live today. Remember don't give your past the power to define you, but just know God is doing something great in you, for you, and through you.
