Enjoy Summer: Bug Repellent Floating Candles
Written by: Allison Swan
Keep the bugs away and enjoy summer nights outdoors with these DIY bug repellent floating candles! This smart idea found on Pinterest is so easy and smells delicious. Here's some tips on how to put your jars together:
1. Fill jars with whatever scent you love. Bugs don't really care for the scent of lemon, orange, cinnamon, lavender, or rosemary, so toss whatever combination that smells best to you into your jar. Cut items into two-inch sections so they won't bunch at the top and overturn your floating candle.
2. Add 20 to 30 drops of citronella essential oil, and then top off with hot water around 100˚F. Allow the water to cool before taking your jar outdoors.
3. Float a citronella-scented candle and light.
These naturally beautiful candles are the perfect addition to family cookouts and outdoor parties. To make sure bugs really stay away, make up several jars and arrange them around your patio. Make up a collection and sit back, relax, and enjoy the glow and bug-free outdoors!
