Communicating with Your Hair Stylist
Written by: Allison Swan
There's a sacred bond between a woman and her hair stylist. You place unwavering trust in their hands to change your life, for better or for worse. Communication can go a long way, so here’s what to tell your stylist what you really want the next time you're in the hot seat.
Be specific about how much length you want off at the beginning.
You don't want to pay a lot to only receive a trim or end up with hair much shorter than what you intended. To eliminate any confusion, bring in photos of what you want. Your stylist might have a very different idea of what you had in mind, so photos are key for communicating length and color preferences.
Are you apprehensive about the cut?
Be honest about your comfort level so your stylist can accommodate your wants.
What's your daily routine?
Your stylist will be able to let you know if your dream hairstyle works with your lifestyle. They'll be honest if the cut is too high maintenance for your routine.
What price are you willing to pay?
Add-ons can really add up. Before getting an expensive treatment or highlights you weren't planning on, know the exact cost before anything is done.
If you're seeing a new hairdresser, tell them everything you've been through.
Tell it all, from bad dye jobs to a bang disaster. If you're seeing the same hairdresser, eliminate any guesswork by being honest about what you have or haven't done to your hair since your last visit.
